G4S is the world's leading supplier of security solutions with over 500,000 employees worldwide, has also implemented a TBS enterprise mobility solution for its Cash Services crews, boosting service levels and efficiency for the collection and delivery of cash and valuables across the UK.
The TBS solution replaces G4S' existing mobility system, and has been developed around TBS TaskMaster for use via 1,800 Motorola MC70 PDAs. It has been designed to deliver a wide range of operational benefits and to enable G4S to implement further developments in the future, including the use of GPS and GPRS technology.
G4S use TBS TaskMaster to provide each Cash Services crew with an order of events for the working day directly to their handheld device. This can be downloaded via a docking station or transmitted directly to the device while the driver is still at the G4S premises over a wireless LAN. Crews scan each cash box onto their vehicle using the barcode scanner within the Motorola device. As each scan takes place the driver must also scan their own ID card to provide an audit trail between each cash box, driver and vehicle.
As each vehicle progresses through its allocated tasks, cash boxes are scanned off the vehicle each time at once again at the delivery point, maintaining the audit trail. G4S was also able to implement new elements of automated process control, made possible by the versatility of TaskMaster which allows bespoke elements to be added to the solution according to customer requirements.
G4S has also been able to pass on the advantages of more immediate access to delivery and collection status information to customer service representatives. Previously, staff responding to a customer enquiry about the status of a delivery or collection had to follow a paper trail in order to provide an update. The integration of TaskMaster with the G4S central systems allows staff to access status information in real time, and pass on the latest information to customers.
