TBS and Shell: a case study – asset inspection & certification management.

Background

Shell UK has a team of competent offshore electrical technicians responsible for carrying out Ex inspections. Ex equipment are Safety Critical Elements (SCE) and thus these inspections are mandatory for maintaining the integrity of the platform.

 

The Problem

Shell UK was looking for a solution to digitise its existing platform inspection regime, which was reliant upon using Excel spreadsheets out in the field to log inspection results.

Typically, an Excel spreadsheet was generated containing a list of all Ex items, often hundreds, to be inspected on a work order. This would be handed to the inspector who would go out to complete the inspections, recording all details on the paper print out.
